Camponotus nicobarensis is a species of tropical carpenter ant native to Southeast Asia, highly valued for its rapid growth and exploratory behavior. It is one of the most active species available for purchase in France: its workers are constantly on the move, making it a particularly enjoyable species to observe.

The colony exhibits strong polymorphism: minor workers are small and fast, while major workers are imposing, with a distinctive head that is hard to miss. This diversity of castes, visible from the first months of rearing, is one of this species' great strengths.

Camponotus nicobarensis requires a warm environment and moderate to high humidity. A Hydrix module from the Nexus range (size M or L+ for established colonies) perfectly suits its needs. Unlike some tropical species, it does not require extreme conditions and adapts well to our interiors as long as the temperature remains above 22 °C.

  • Diapause: Light winter rest recommended (15 °C, 6 to 8 weeks)

  • Rearing difficulty: Beginner to intermediate

Each colony is shipped from France with a founding queen and her first workers, in packaging suitable for live insect transport.
